So, I have purple hair now!

I’ve been debating about dying my hair purple for a good few months now, and on Wednesday I FINALLY took the plunge. I’ve had my hair a gingery-orange for about a year and a half and I absolutely love it, but I felt like it was about time for a change, and I needed a bit of colour in my life! Throughout the years I’ve put my hair through hell: bleaching it, dying it stripping it, you name it. I’ve been more or less every colour at least once, but purple hair is by far one of my favourites.

One of my concerns with going purple was how damaging would be for my hair. Like I’ve already mentioned, I’ve bleached my hair a fair few times in the last 5 years and my hair wasn’t in the best of conditions. Cut 2 years down the line, and my hair has FINALLY grown (to the point where I can’t believe how long it has gotten) and was in a pretty good condition. I was worried that lightening my hair was going to completely wreck it all over again and I’d be left with a crispy, broken mess but luckily, this wasn’t the case.

Armed with Schwarzkopf’s Colour Intense Permanent Coloration 00B Max Blonde and Aussie’s 3 Minute Miracle Colour Deep Treatment (my holy grail product), I (I say I- my mum actually did it for me!) successfully lightened my hair to a (somewhat) blonde.

As you can see, it was incredibly patchy- my roots a white blonde whilst the ends still considerably orange- but it still did the job.

I did this on Tuesday night, taking care to smother my hair in the conditioner afterwards, and let it calm overnight. I’ve read somewhere that leaving time in between bleaching your hair and dying it a bright colour reduces how much the colour will stain your hair but I’m not sure how true this is.

On Wednesday I got my two friends to come over (credit where credit is due Lyss and Corie) to tackle my hair. To be perfectly honest, I’m not sure what exactly it was they did, but as far as I know they put Direction’s Plum at the root, Violet on the lengths and Flamingo Pink on the ends (although you can’t really see the pink), and it came out better than I could have imagined. Granted we had a few issues along the way- painting my forehead, ears and neck with dye, staining my face purple after we washed the dye out (that was a stressful 10 minutes), and nearly giving the bathroom a purple makeover- but the end result was great!

Since then, I’ve washed my hair twice- once with a sulphate and salt free shampoo, once with Herbal Essences’s Ignite My Colour Shampoo– and despite the scary amount of purple that runs out of my hair (sorry mum for staining the shower) I haven’t seen all that much fading. I think I can start to see hints of orange in the under layers of my hair (where pink dye was put on it), but other than that it is still just as vibrant! One of my biggest gripes with coloured hair is just how damn quick they fade, sometimes in just one wash. I can’t yet comment on how well this dye has stayed in, but I will keep you updated!

I think that so far, one of my favourite things about my purple hair is being able to match my eyeshadow with it!

So, what do you think? Have you ever dyed your hair a bright colour?
